About Me:
My Aquatic career started as a competitive swimmer at Evander Childs H.S.
in Bronx, N.Y. This was followed with my service in the U.S. NAVY (Naval Special Warfare Unit). In the early 1970s, my interest shifted to recreational and scientific research diving. I taught SCUBA and served as Diving Research Officer at several Colleges & Universities in the Chicago, Il, Southern California, and Florida areas. I additionally served as a consultant with the Miami-Dade Public Schools' Inner-City Marine Project, and the development of MAST Academy, a marine science magnate High School. In 1991, I co-founded the National Association of Black Scuba Divers, Inc. and served as its founding president (1991-1994). During my tenure at NABS, I implemented NABS' annual dive summit program beginning in 1991, and in 1993, conceived and carried out the laying of a commemorative plaque, at the sight of the "Henrietta Marie" slave ship. Currently, I am serving as Co-Founder & BOD member of NABS. I am also in the process of starting a non-profit foundation, designed to sponsor and conduct a variety of activities and instructions related to marine sciences and aquatics in the South Florida area.

Thanks for the information. I will contact them soon. A little about me: I am now taking refresher swimming classes at the Harlem YMCA. I learned to swim as a girl in brownies, but after almost drowning, I stayed away from pools. Then again at 25, I took lessons and would join a friend and swim a few times a week after work. However, since moving to NYC more than 10 years ago, I have barely been near a pool. So now, I will complete my lessons, then take a scuba diving class. I I have lived near the water my entire life, and I love it. Now is the time that I get over all my water issues and dive in completely. Thanks again for the information.

I'm a big baby - I wear a 5mm in 80 degree water :-P I do get some sun swimming during the surface interval sans wetsuit. It's heavenly!

Makes perfect sense. I think I might give this a try. Since I have never done it before (and never even gave it a second thought) this is quite the challenge. I bungy jump but that's the extent of my adventurous life!

Thank you so much. I might try the Scuba diving with the older kids but right now I have lots of little ones. It might be an adventure for them. Let me discuss this with the swim school and we'll make a decision. Thank you for the idea. I appreciate it!

I got your question about the dive show Beneath the the Sea.Unfortunatley, I work for the show and don't get to see much of it. If you have been there you know that even if you go as an attendee, it is difficult to see everything. When I had my free time, the only things I got to do was attend the PADI Forum and the film festival. Also, DEMA is a better show to go to to get the update on new products
