Hi Toni,
I pray you utilize the resources that have come to your attention in order that your concerns be addressed. I do hope and pray that others like Ricky Johnson do reach out to lend their expertise in helping Booker T. Washington High and othe…
Naji,
What an inspiriing article you have written trying to motivate all to check out open water swimming. I pray that your efforts are not in vain and that we be more open to handling situations we may find ourselves in, even though we may not anti…
I am a former swimmer who got into the sport due to my previous experience of almost drowning at the age of 5. I have been a lifeguard on the beaches of Chicago, swam competitively for the Chicago Park District, and in High School. I now reside in Prentiss, MS, which doesn't have a public swimming facility, and I have to drive at least 40 minutes to go swimming. I desire that this town tries to consruct a pool for children to learn swimming, which I would love to teach, since I have obtained a W.S.I designation(Water Safety Instructosr) via the American Red Cross. What a waste to obtain something you can't utilize due to the lack of proper resources and concern. I welcome any suggestions anyone has that could lead me in the right direction
Darrick, thanks for your kind words. Your absolutely right a lot of folks; Black, White, Asian, Latino/a won't consider open water swimming because of the issues you just mentioned, but I can't begin to describe the joy I get when I'm out there accomplishing a long swim and the sense of freedom I feel in that environment.
Hopefully - one day - you do me the honor of coming to San Francisco and swimming with me in a controlled, safe, and fun environment that will introduce you to open water. Feel free to let me know when your in the area and you can stay at my house as my guest and partake of the fun you can have in my very large swimming pool :) Stay strong Darrick and keep swimming! Naji
Thank you so much, Darrick! I appreciate the encouragement. My own children don't always understand my passion for swimming, but they just had to shut up and learn. Now I have to work on my younger children. Maybe one of them will get the bug. But, either which way, they will have this very important live skill. Thank you for reading and supporting imswimming. It makes the researching and scratching for ideas all worth it.
Greetings Darrick: I met a sister from Jackson Ms. She has an interest in doing some type of swim program in Jackson. How far are you from here? Can i put you 2 in touch? ken Stewart
Good to hear from your Darrick. It has a been a while. As Jay Z and Carlito Brigante say, "The Streets are Watching."
Everything has been good on my end. Just trying to keep things moving. Let us know what we can do to help in your efforts with the pool. And I will definitely keep you in prayer and I greatly appreciate the ones you are sending my way.
Thank you for all your kind and inspiring words. I look forward to being apart of something great in the aquatic world....a world that not many know about but all should be aware of. Live life to the fullest and SWIM!
All is well with me and family, Darrick. I have been traveling for the past 5 weeks (Brooklyn, NY, NYC, Germantown, TN twice, I am there now, St. Louis & Kansas City, MO, and Lake Rawlings). I am busy, and I do stop to smell the roses. Life is so precious, and I live for family and loved ones. Thanks for thinking of me. Take care, I will stay in touch.
Darrick,
Thank you so much for the warm welcome. I just purchase Charlotte Aquatics in December and would love to share information with you. Please let me know what information would be helpful and I will answer to the best of my ability. Hopefully, I will be of some small help inyour quest to get a pool in/near Prentiss. Looking forward to our conversations.
